Code of Ethics

The Mint Records Code of Ethics provides the guiding principles that ensure the safety and wellness of our staff and artists. We expect all artists to uphold our ethical standards, be accountable for their actions and behaviour, and maintain the integrity and reputation of Mint Records.

We do not discriminate
At Mint Records, we do not tolerate discrimination based on an individual’s gender, race, colour, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical or mental disability, religion, or age.

As a company, this means going deeper than diversity and inclusion. We acknowledge the ways in which intersecting identities are vulnerable to systemic discrimination in very distinct ways. Through this lens, we examine our role in maintaining systemic inequities and commit to dismantling harmful systems.

We do not harass others
We do not accept abusive behaviour that causes unsafety, intimidation, and offence towards others. We recognize that certain groups are disproportionately targeted in cases of harassment – such as Black, Indigenous, and racialized people, LGBTQAI2+, women, and people living with a disability – and commit to creating environments that are free from harassment.

Types of harassment include:
• Verbal: discriminatory or explicative comments towards an individual or a group, including jokes, insults, threats, or slurs.
• Physical: unsolicited touching; violent and aggressive physical contact, such as pushing or punching; spitting; threatening to cause harm.
• Online bullying: hostile behaviour towards an individual or a group through online platforms, including social media, email, texting, and other digital spaces.
• Retaliation: punishing and/or elevating abuse towards an individual for reporting harassment.

We respect boundaries
We promote a culture of consent that respects the boundaries, agency, and dignity of a person. Sexual harassment, and the condoning of sexual harassment, is unconscionable, dishonourable, and threatens the safety and wellbeing of our community.

We believe survivors and centre them in our responses to violence. We recognize the impact that trauma can have on a survivor and provide support that works to restore trust, agency, and dignity for people who have experienced harm.

We are accountable for our actions
The actions we take as members of the Mint Records community shape our reputation and character. Acting with integrity and responsibility upholds a sense of safety and is something we create together.

In order to foster safety, respect, and success at Mint Records, it is necessary for everyone to function in a non-impaired state. While alcohol is often available at Mint Records events, we drink responsibly. We recognize that prioritizing safety means being more responsible and accountable around the use of inebriating substances. It is important to stress that being under the influence of drugs or alcohol is not an excuse to violate any aspect of this code.

Violation of the code of ethics
Any suspected violation of this Code, or any unethical behaviour encompassed in this Code, can be reported directly to Mint Records. We request that reports come directly from the injured party or a witness. Violations are taken seriously, and appropriate action will be taken. Mint Records has the right to terminate the contract of any Artist that violates this Code of Ethics. If the allegations are of a felonious nature, the report should be made with local authorities.
